Credit/Course Requirements For High School Graduation

 

CREDIT REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADE PROMOTION

Students are promoted from one grade level to another only when they have achieved sufficient credits to move satisfactorily towards graduation.  Promotion is usually done at the beginning of the school year in September.

Grade 9   -          0-9   credits 

Grade 10 -        10-21 credits Ten credits for students who first enter grade 9 in or after 2004-2005 school year.

Grade 11 -       22-29  credits  -  Students must have passed 4 credits in English (excluding any skills courses, but including ESL courses),

                        4 credits in Social Studies (any 4  courses of the H1 to H8 sequence excluding electives),  (22 credits for students who first enter grade 9 in or after the 2004-2005 school  year.)

Grade 12 -       30-44 credits - Students must be able to complete all required courses by June without attending Night School or Summer School. A minimum of 28 credits – 30 credits for students who first enter grade 9 in or after the 2004-2005 school years.

* Specified courses for the Social Studies requirement are Global History (4 credits), US History (2 credits), Government and Economics.

 

** Four of the six science credits must be Regents based and have a corresponding laboratory (Minimum of 1200 minutes)

 

*** Physical Education requirements include seven gyms which will equal four credits

 

**** The 44 credit requirement applies of entering 9th grade students in the 2001 school year.  Prior entry dates are under the 40 credit requirement, with no credit being given to the 7 gym requirements

Local Diploma

Score 55-64 on 5 Regents Exams and earn 44 credits

Pass a minimum of two exams at 65, the rest at 55

Pass a minimum of three exams at 65, the rest at 55

Regents Diploma

Score 65 or above on 5 Regents Exams and earn 44 credits

Pass all five exams with a minimum of 65

Pass all five exams with a minimum of 65

Advanced Regents Diploma

Score 65 or above on 8 Regents Exams and earn 44 credits

In addition, pass exams in a language other than English, a second science, and a second math with a minimum of 65 on each exam
